Secret Recipes: Call for Artwork

What is your secret recipe?

Through your artwork, share with us a feeling, memory, thought process, person, food or abstraction that flavors your life. Share with us something that adds spice and meaning, a unique ingredient or perspective that has shaped who you are and how you arrived at this moment. Your creative response can be as literal as a still life of an ingredient used in a family recipe, or as abstract as a written poetic response on paper. Use this prompt to dig deep into the magic ingredients of your life.

Some questions, prompts, and metaphors to get the artistic juices flowing:

What is your secret recipe? For…..
A life well lived
Making a friend
Making an enemy
The perfect PB&J sandwich
A peaceful Sunday
Being in the present moment
What does your cookie cutter look like?
What is your favorite flavor?
Who is your sous chef? How do they support you?
Where do you source and shop for your ingredients (or your people, your experiences)?
What food can’t you live without and why? What person? What place? What natural element?
Is there a word, phrase, or image that helps your understanding of life click into place? A saying that gives you solace, nourishment?
When you smell it, what ingredient or food brings back the strongest visual memory for you, and what is that memory?
What foods are traditional during certain times of year in your family? What traditions?

Submission Requirements
Eligible participants: Paid Inside Out Productions Artists, L.A. GOAL volunteers, L.A. GOAL staff members
2D submissions may not exceed 16” x 16”. This dimension is the TOTAL dimension of the completed, framed piece. Works on canvas do not have to be framed, but must be wired. Any 3D work must not exceed 14” x 14” x 14”.
All submissions MUST be framed and wired to hang (no saw-tooth hangers, etc.), and must be titled and signed. 3D work needs no frame, but must follow aforementioned size requirements.
A maximum of 2 submissions per artist. Not all submissions are guaranteed to make it into the show. There will be many more opportunities to participate in our group shows, and we encourage everyone eligible to submit. This will increase the diversity, inclusion, and equity of our submission experience! We’ll let you know by May 9th if your submission has been accepted into the show.
All work submitted must be allowed to sell through the duration of the exhibition.
No entry fee, but 40% of volunteer or staff artwork sale price will be donated to L.A. GOAL/Inside Out Productions. The donation is tax deductible and goes directly towards supporting our Artists with developmental disabilities. You will receive a tax letter if your piece sells. You will also receive a check for 60% of the sale price of your piece.
Along with your submission, you will share a suggested price for your piece, however, please be aware that we have final say in pricing all pieces.
If your work is accepted into the show, we require all artists to submit a total count of how many invitations you will need to mail or distribute amongst your community
Please write a three to five sentence statement about your piece to accompany your submission. This will be printed and available for the public at the opening reception and duration of the exhibit.
Submission deadline: May 2nd, 2018, 11:59PM through artcall.org.
All submissions must be submitted through our online portal, artcall.org.
Pickup and drop off of artwork is the sole responsibility of the artist, by the appropriate deadlines. Artwork that does not sell will be available for participating artists to pick up after the work has returned to L.A. GOAL from the exhibition space.
